Is This For You?

You have begun your exploration of singing, dancing and acting. Now you're ready for the next step. Are you inspired by the prospect of diving deeply into a musical in a way that is impossible during a regular, large cast rehearsal process?

Over a semester long process, the students will take on production positions, (i.e., video editing, set design, costume design, choreographing, and dramaturgy) as well as acting roles, in a small cast musical. The production created by this class will be a part of the 2021 online season, culminating in a unique premiere party designed by the class, and group viewing with guests from all of the country and the world, via Zoom.

Work with Artistic Director, Kathleen Edwards, to expand your understanding of text analysis in order to grasp the arc of a character. Create broad, stylized characters, develop comic timing, pursue your objective with laser beam focus, while mining the truth of scenes and songs.

Work with a Musical Director Frances Ho, to enhance your personal strengths and address vocal challenges in a one on one basis. Recording audio for an online performance requires singing precision from every cast member. As a result of this focused attention to detail, you will improve tone, increase vocal strength and build your range.

Performing a small cast musical recorded by a camera means more personal attention to dance technique than ever. Choreography is a gateway to directing and so we make sure that Academy provides lots of opportunity to develop skills as a choreographer.

But wait, there's more...

Students will be required to take on production team responsibilities. Expand your knowledge to include new skills like blocking a scene for the camera, choreographing a dance remotely, costuming, creating props and sets, working with a green screen, and editing with your phone. Market your show, view the budget, and participate in production meetings.

Learn to make your own work!

Meet Our Cardio Tap Class Teacher...

Krystle Armstrong-Alan (Dance/Acting Teacher, Choreographer, Owner of CardioTAP™) is very grateful to be returning to the Hi-Liner family after 11 years away in NYC! Krystle grew up performing with the Hi-Liners and has been choreographing, teaching dance, and performing professionally in the Seattle, WA area since 2002 on such stages as 5th Avenue, Village Theatre, SCT, and ArtsWest. She moved to NYC in 2009 to pursue her performing career on the east coast. There, she ran her fitness business, CardioTAP™, choreographed and performed as much as possible. She is also a Company Member of the esteemed tap group, The Honey Taps, under the direction of Jackie Covas. Some favorite performances include Millie in “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” and Peggy Sawyer in “42nd Street”. Her choreography has been seen with many theatre organizations including the Hi-Liners, Village Theatre KIDSTAGE, CDA Summer Theatre, Liberty High School, and Ballard High School. She would like to thank Kathleen Edwards for this opportunity!
