Into the Woods

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. One of Sondheim's most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy.

Guest Artists

College students and young adult actors who exhibit an advanced level of performing ability and training can be considered for Guest Artist positions in the cast. Guest Artists will be awarded partial or full tuition scholarships in return for hours spent in mentorship with The Hi-Liners. These hours will be delivered by taking on responsibilities in rehearsals, taking on leadership positions in promotional appearances such as parades and festivals, and leading marketing campaigns on social media or poster drives.

Age Range

Auditions are open to actors ages 9 to 22.

Audition Requirements

Performers should prepare approximately 16 bars of a song and a one minute monologue. Please provide a copy of your sheet music, in a three ring binder, for the accompanist. Dress to impress (ie: no shorts, flip flops, or bare midriffs), and provide us with a current picture and resume. A school picture or snapshot is fine. Make sure that it looks like you. Important Tip: The purpose of the photo is to help us remember you, so do not provide photos of you wearing a hat, holding a pet, or soaking wet on the beach. "Recognizable" is absolutely more important than "cute." A few audition tips: Be on time, memorize your song, don't chew gum, and be courteous and professional before, during and after your audition.
